Katnga - Hot & Spicy

Katnga is our vernacular term for ginataang laing. It is a favorite Bicolano dish made of dried taro leaves and coconut cream.

Katnga/Ginataang Laing

There are many versions of Katnga. You can use shrimp, fish meat, crab meat, pork meat, chicken meat or just plain alamang as ingredient. And let's not forget the big chilies for a little spice.

Love's Meaning

Love's Meaning

Love is what makes you bloom
Don't take it away, It shall wither the flower of your life.
Leaving you as dead as black winter.
Love is what makes you strong
Don't take it away, it shall break the strength of your will to live
A life as glowing as the sun on a bright day.

Love is what makes you see
The infinite beauty of the heaven's above you
Don't take it away, it shall drive you
To a world so impenetrably dark and gloomy.
Love is the only sentinel
In your castle of dreams
Don't take it away, it shall shatter your dreams
into a harsh reality.

Love makes you bloom and strong
Love makes you hope and see
Love is the only sentinel in your world so carefree and gay.
Take love away from you
I'll find you a withered flower
Easily broken as a dry leafless tree
As cold as the arms of a lifeless lover.

Typewriter/ABC Wednesday

T is for Typewriter

Typewriter

This old typewriter is over 30 years old and still in very good condition. Found this one in my new office at the Local Government Unit of Iriga City where I am currently employed. I read somewhere that typewriters were no longer produced as it became obsolete with the use of the computers. But before there were computers, typewriters ruled the office as early as the 18th Century.

Jaja's Birthday

My niece Jamela Andrecel celebrated her 3rd birthday last May 23, but we decided to have a simple birthday party for her today since it is a Saturday. With some kids from the neighborhood as the guests the party was a success. Here's some of the the photos.

Some wacky shots.

Blowing of the candles.

A party will not be complete without the foods.

No Time to Update

Hello dear readers, Just so thankful that I'd be able to update my poor blog again. March, April and May were a very busy months for me as I have to review for my final exams in Law school, adjusting to my new job, a wedding preparation for my brother. But the truth is these were only excuses why I didn't updated my blog. The real reason is that my computer was busted. (hehehe). Just so happy that everything is okay so guys, I'M BACK!

Tinagba Festival 2013

The 11th day of February is always a festive day to us Irigueños as we celebrate the Tinagba Festival in our City. It also coincides with the feast our Our Lady of Lourdes.

As always, the city was flooded by many visitors from the nearby town and different parts of the Bicol region to witnessed the event. This was also a red-letter day in Iriga since the President Pnoy declared it as a Special Non-Working Day. I also saw a lot of foreigners who came to watched too, which also shows that tourism is booming in the city.

I, my sister Joan and my niece Jaja went to the city proper to watched the bullcart caravan, float parade as well as the street dancing competition.

Here are some snapshots of the festivities.

The Tribal Community also joined the festivities.

The bullcart caravan where members of the community paraded with carabao-drawn carts decorated to represent their sector. Also in the bullcart is their Tagba or alay to our Inang Lourdes.

Clowns in their colorful costumes and happy faces also joined the parade. The children watching made a delighting squeal of pleasure upon seeing the clowns doing their tricks.

This year Tinagba also featured a dazzling display of floats creatively made from indigenous materials. From what I observed this year's team is Fantasy. From the fairy tales world.
